Mary Baker Eddy’s Final Home
Project Architect at Wolf Architects
The late 1800s home was designed by the renowned architectural firm Peabody & Stearns for William Richardson Dupee. Shortly after his passing the estate was sold to Ms. Mary Baker Eddy, founder of Christian Science. Now owned by the Longyear Museum, the estate has gone under extensive renovations to restore the home back to when Ms. Eddy lived on the property (1907-1910). Exterior improvements included new slate roofing and copper gutters, restored original windows and doors, repointed and repaired brick and stone masonry, and new wood shutters to match the existing. A new rear porch and museum entrance were constructed at the rear of the home.
Also included was a complete renovation of the basement level which now houses a large gallery space for artifacts of the museum, breakout rooms, and a presentation space. The original historic elevator was refurbished to make the home more accessible for guests.
