Topsfield Colonial
Schematic Design
This project replaces an existing one-car garage with a new two-car garage and a primary suite above, providing expanded living space for a growing family.
Given the substantial size of the new program, the addition is intentionally set back from the main body of the house to reduce its visual prominence from the street. This approach helps maintain the perceived scale of the original structure and reinforces a more natural, evolved composition.
The design draws inspiration from traditional New England farmhouse architecture, with the goal of creating an addition that feels as though it has developed organically over time. Massing, proportions, and material selections are carefully considered to ensure the new construction blends seamlessly with the existing home, preserving and enhancing its original farmhouse character.
Overall, the project balances the functional needs of modern family living with a thoughtful, context-driven design approach rooted in timeless architectural principles.
