Accessible Primary Suite
This project involved the design of a modest residential addition to support aging in place for a homeowner with a progressive mobility impairment. The new primary suite was carefully planned to accommodate a ceiling mounted lift system and a fully accessible bathroom, allowing the home to function safely and independently as mobility needs evolve. Due to the home’s proximity to protected wetlands, the project required a complex permitting process and approvals from multiple conservation authorities. Working closely with environmental consultants and local officials, the design incorporated targeted stormwater and erosion control measures to protect the surrounding resource area. The project demonstrates how thoughtful design and careful permitting can balance environmental stewardship with the urgent need for accessible housing.
